Don't forget that the tank must be properly grounded for the tank sensor to work.
This is how we recommend you do it when installing. Connect the tank sensor under the car before mounting it in the tank. It is very important to ground it properly, turn on the ignition and move the sensor arm in all positions and check the readings of the tank gauge. If it shows an error, you can check that the tank gauge is ok by grounding the cable that is screwed into the tank sensor (ground it very well, scrape it clean so you get a proper contact) switch on the ignition and now the needle should be on an empty tank exactly at 0 then that's it ok so far. Now remove the cable from earth, thus breaking the circuit. With the ignition switched on, the fuel gauge should show above full, so the needle pulls to the right as much as possible. If it is ok, you know that the tank gauge and the cables between the tank sensor and dashboard are ok. Then, when the tank sensor is to be mounted in the tank, you must adjust the arm to the float so that the float is at the bottom of the tank when the sensor is in the lower position and that the float is at the top of the tank when the sensor's upper end position is reached. You have to adjust this by bending the float arm. Either you have to look into the tank through the tank filler hole, or you have to measure yourself. It is often a lot of tinkering before you get it done. But that's the only way if you want to get the tank gauge to show reasonably well. Then you have to consider that there was no accurate fuel gauge function that the cars had 50-60 years ago. The most important thing is that you ground the tank sensor properly even after the tank is mounted, and that you make the right movement from mine. to max on the float inside the tank. Good luck!
