Changing the filter in the gearbox is a very good medicine to avoid costly gearbox breakdowns
When you check the oil level in the gearbox, the engine must be warm and idling, make sure the car is level. If you check the level when the engine is cold, remember that the level rises when the oil warms up.
In 1964 there were 2 different gearboxes, this is how you check which gearbox you have:
The TH 400 box is 3-speed. You can see it most easily on the gear indicator, the slope is 2nd from the left, closest to the parking lot. The oil pan has 13 bolts
The Jetaway box is 4-speed. You can see it most easily on the gear indicator, the slope is on the far right. The oil pan has 14 bolts to the pan
