Description

We have bought a small batch of refurbished petrol pumps with Made in the USA modern rubber material and non-return valves that can withstand our bad gasoline with ethanol admixture. The company behind these gas pumps specializes in repair kits and refurbishments of older type gas pumps. We have bought fuel pump rope kits from the company for over 25 years with no problems. We have also had complete pumps delivered, mostly for 1953 and older Cadillacs. The price picture for complete pumps is high, which is why we have refrained from buying newly manufactured ones. As the situation is today, we cannot get hold of newly manufactured petrol pumps with acceptable quality, therefore we have decided to hire our reliable USA company also for newer year models. So this is a refurbished petrol pump in original design, complete with gasket for installation. This is not a cheap petrol pump, but we offer a 3-year warranty on this petrol pump if it breaks down (Vapour lock in the pump is not a breakdown, but a problem caused by bad petrol and the location of the pump in the engine compartment. In 1949-62, the fuel was so good, so it could withstand being placed on top of the engine without getting so-called vapor lock when a queue is formed)

Tip!

When you have dismantled the old fuel pump, check that the pump rod driven by the camshaft is in its lowest position. Turn the motor around so the rod ends up in the lowest position, then the pump is easier to mount. When replacing the fuel pump, check carefully that dirt does not enter the fuel hoses and fuel pipes. Also change the fuel filter, is there a lot of dirt in the filter? Maybe it's time to take down the gas tank and clean it.

This is how you do it when you install the new fuel pump.

Do not hold the threaded connection holes and pump with the lever to check if the pump works.

What happens then is that you block the movement of the diaphragm up and down, while forcing the lever arm to move.

The lever will then release from the shaft of the pump diaphragm and the pump will become unusable.

This is exactly what Cadillac writes in their service booklets, so follow these instructions and install the pump without trying to test it before installation.

Cadillac also writes in their service manuals that you should turn the engine so that the pump rod ends up in its lowest position.

After that, lubricate the upper part of the pump rod with engine oil, then mount the pump without covering the connection holes.

Before you screw in the connecting pipe / nipples, you can fill in a little petrol in the threaded holes,
then it is easier for the pump to get started by starting to suck and pump.
(After all, it is a fuel pump, not an air pump)
