This modulator only fits cars with TH-400 gearbox.
Vacuum modulator in original design that sits on the right side of the gearbox, it is controlled by the vacuum in the engine's intake pipe. The function is that it partially takes care of the gearbox upshift. The surface treatment of the modulator varies depending on which brand we have in stock.
Remove the vacuum hose from your old modulator, if there is oil in the hose, the diaphragm in the modulator is bad. Replace modulator.
Is the engine smoking at idle? It could be as simple as the intake vacuum sucking up gear oil through a broken modulator.
In 1964 there were 2 different gearboxes, this is how you check which gearbox you have:
- The Jetaway box is 4-speed. You can see it most easily on the gear indicator, the slope is on the far right. The oil pan has 14 bolts to the pan
– The TH 400 box is 3-speed. You can see it most easily on the gear indicator, the hill is 2nd from the left closest to the parking lot. The oil pan has 13 bolts.
