Description
Early 1973 transmissions have an O-Ring that sits on the shifter shaft. It sits in a groove that is milled on the shaft that the shifter is screwed into. But it can also fit a Packbox VAX-8732 You must therefore check what type of shaft seal you have. This is what the hole in the gearbox looks like if you have the O-ring type, the shaft also has a groove for the O-ring. 
Tip!
Jack up the car and wash off the gearbox with degreaser, rinse thoroughly with warm water. Lie under the car and check where the first drop of oil comes from, then it's easier to find where the box is leaking oil. To replace the o-ring, you must disassemble the oil pan and remove the gear shaft from the transmission to access the new O-Ring.
