This oil cap is a replacement cap made in the early 1950's in the USA. It's a heavy-duty cover in solid sheet metal that fits perfectly, it's a nice replacement cover that's a little lower than the original. Unfortunately, the lids have been rattling around in their cardboard box for approx. 70 years, so there is a bit of nut damage on them, a little new paint and it will be nice again.
Inside the oil cap there is a type of iron wire tangle, this tangle must be sticky so that dust and dirt will stick and not travel further into the engine. Do this: Wash out the mess, pour degreaser into the lid several times, rinse with warm water, let dry thoroughly. Fill the cap with thick engine oil, pour out the excess oil. Leave the cover to drain until the next day, so you don't get sticky oil on the engine. Now the cover is ready to use until you service the engine next time.
