This rubber strip is mounted on top of the torpedo wall and seals against the hood. An important list, if you miss it, the rear edge of the hood is not in the right height and the crankcase ventilation penetrates the rear edge of the hood and further into the cabin, there is a smell of burnt oil/exhaust gases inside the car and this should be avoided. And you can get a greasy fog on the windshield, the construction with crankcase ventilation on an old engine from the 50s-60s is not like a modern engine. Open smelling crankcase ventilation is the construction of older engines and there doesn't have to be anything wrong with the engine for that.
