Flame Thrower The ignition coil provides 40,000 volts and that is twice as much as an original ignition coil. It is designed to be used with the Ignitor switchless ignition system, or standard ignition system.
The ignitor ignition coil must have a 12 volt supply.
When replacing the ignition coil, connect the cables correctly. Plus + must be connected to the cable coming from the ignition switch. Minus – must be connected to the cable that goes to the distributor
HEI Means: High Energy Ignition And it was the new switchless ignition system that GM came standard with in 1975, in 1974 it was an optional extra on Cadillac.
If you have an HEI ignition system, the distributor cap is mounted with 4 screws and the ignition coil sits on top of the distributor cap.
If you don't have an HEI ignition system, the distributor cover is mounted with 2 screws and you have a regular round ignition coil that sits a bit from the distributor.
