Generally

A pair of custom-made gaskets for the intake. The Loctite glue is included in the kit. The type we have now developed is made of a stainless steel that can withstand the exhaust heat that occurs on one side of the gasket. The manufacturer Loctite has a technical department that helped us with which glue to use together with these gaskets. Glue both sides of the gasket with a thin layer on the sealing surfaces. So these are intake gaskets that have blocked preheating channels. With original gaskets, hot exhaust gases travel through the preheating channel in the middle of the intake. The reason you have it is that, if the temperature is around zero and the weather is humid, there is a risk of ice forming in the carburetor foot and in the upper part of the intake. With ice plugs in the fuel channels, the engine stops. And you couldn't have Cadillacs that risk stalling when the temperature is around zero with humid weather, so that's why they solved it this way. Nowadays, with the modern fuel and with driving mostly in the summer months, we have bigger problems with hot running and vapor lock than ice formation in the carburettor. Then blocking the preheating with these special gaskets could be the solution. But (as usual, there is always a but) The pre-heating channel that runs between the left and right cylinder head also fulfills another function. And that is to equalize the exhaust gas pressure between the cylinder heads. Some cars have an equalization between the exhaust pipes under the car, Cadillac 1949-67 has that equalization in the intake. What can then happen is that you get a different exhaust sound and that the engine does not run as smoothly as with an open equalization pipe. We have sold a lot of these gaskets and some think the original is better, other customers say it turns out perfect and all hot running problems and vapor locks disappear completely. We also have customers who have drilled 8-15mm holes in the blocked gasket surface, this way you get a throttling of the heat while at the same time you get an equalization between the cylinder head exhaust ducts. If you bought these packs and found a good middle ground with e.g. borehole diameter, please contact us. Sincerely. Tommy / TA Motor AB

Tip!

You can also drill a hole in the middle where the preheating channel should be, then you get a small preheating of the intake. and equalization between the cylinder head exhaust ducts. Always glue the gaskets on both sides, using the glue that comes with the kit.
