The inner part of the pinion seal. The outer part of your old seal must be reused. The pictures below show how it looks. Note that there are axles that use the 1953-59 Pinion Seal i.e. BAK-4560. Compare with the pictures.
The stuffing box with the outer plate of the pinion seal still in place before disassembly. If it looks like this, the BAK-3028 is the right packing box
Be careful with the outer part of your old pinion seal, it should be reused. Carefully remove the old seal from the rear axle. You can, for example, drill small holes and use pullout screws or spot weld the brackets for a slide hammer. Then re-weld the holes and fix any damage. Carefully knock off the inner part of your old pinion seal, brush on some gasket glue then install the new seal facing the spring towards the oil.
Below shows the old outer part of the pinion seal and on the right the stuffing box knocked out from its outer part. You must therefore ensure that the outer part is taken out intact because it will be reused.
