A water hose nipple that is made of brass that does not rust. It is threaded with 3/8 NPT thread approx: 17mm diameter if you measure the outside of the nipple with a caliper. The other end has an outer dimension of 5/8″ = 15.9mm for heat pack hose.
If you wish, you can brush a thin layer of gasket adhesive on the threads before fitting the nipple. But it often seals anyway, because the gang is conical.
National Pipe Thread is an American standard that includes tapered and straight threads. NPT are the conical threads, where the T in the abbreviation stands for tapered (conical), and NPS the straight (straight). NPT threads all have the same taper, 3/4 inch per foot. Pipes and fittings with this type of thread are found primarily in sizes from 1/8 inch up to and including 2 inches.
